Five go on trial over UK terrorist training camps

By Michael Holden, LONDON (Reuters) - Five men charged with terrorist training offences went on trial in London on Wednesday and the high-security court was told a sixth man, their leader, had already admitted soliciting murder.

 

Number of radical Dutch Muslims growing

AMSTERDAM (dpa) - The Dutch intelligence and security service AIVD published a report on Tuesday indicating the number of radical Dutch Muslims is on the rise.

The reports speaks about an "extremely intolerant and anti-democratic" movement which is reportedly not violent however.

Judge: No bail for San Jose man charged with aiding terror plot

SAN JOSE, California: A judge agreed with federal prosecutors Tuesday that a California man with alleged ties to terrorists in the Philippines must remain jailed pending his trial.

U.S. District Judge Jeremy Fogel ruled that San Jose resident Rahmat Abdhir poses a threat to the community where he has spent 17 years with a wife and four children who are all U.S. citizens because he knowingly sent money and military gear to his brother, a high-ranking member of an al-Qaida off-shoot.

VIENNA, Austria - A Bosnian arrested in an apparent plot to bomb the U.S. Embassy in Vienna seems confused and in the past received psychiatric care, Austrian officials said Tuesday as they tried to determine a motive for the botched attempt.

Germany Terror Plot Suspect On Run in Britain

A key suspect in the alleged plot to mount an attack in Germany on the scale of 9/11 is on the run in Britain, German security officials disclosed Saturday.

Scotland Yard counterterrorism detectives are hunting the man, who escaped from Germany after a plot to explode bombs at Frankfurt airport and a U.S. airbase. The collective power of the bombs would have exceeded those in Madrid and London in 2004 and 2005.

 In a 12-minute video posted on YouTube, an Egyptian man wearing a white shirt, khaki pants and rubber gloves explains in Arabic how to turn a toy boat into a bomb.

His name is Ahmed Abdellatif Sherif Mohamed, and last month he was arrested in Goose Creek after authorities found four PVC pipes containing a mixture of potassium nitrate, kitty litter and sugar in his car’s trunk.

Imam Fawaz Damra, the spiritual leader of Ohio's largest mosque, was convicted in June 2004 of concealing ties to three groups that the U.S. government classifies as terrorist organizations when he applied for U.S. citizenship in 1994.

Duane David, who is serving time in Kingston's Joyceville Institution for an unknown crime, had complained to the Canadian Human Rights Commission that his rights were being violated as the prison failed to offer a halal replacement for bacon served to inmates with breakfast every Wednesday.

NEW DELHI: Two police posts were set on fire by thousands of agitated residents and students around Jamia Milia Islamia University on Saturday evening. The angry mob first set Jamia police post on fire and later targetted Sahinbagh police post in Sarita Vihar. About 40 people, including policemen, were injured in the violence.
