U.S. Rests Case in Terrorism Trial

MIAMI (AP) -- Federal prosecutors rested Thursday in the trial of seven men accused of plotting to destroy Chicago's Sears Tower and bomb FBI offices in several cities in hopes of sparking an armed insurrection against the U.S. government.

A Spanish court has sentenced three men to thousands of years in jail for their part in the Madrid bombings in 2004.

Moroccans Jamal Zougam and Otman el Ghanoui and Spaniard Emilio Trashorras were convicted of murder, but suspected mastermind Rabei Osman was acquitted.

    They say their human rights were breached when they were given a special nightly menu - drawn up to recognise their specific dietary requirements - by officers at HMP Leeds last month.

    Egypt holds 62 accused of plot to bomb lobby group

    CAIRO, Oct 9 (Reuters) - Egypt has detained 62 Islamists accused of plotting to blow up a pro-democracy lobby group in Cairo headed by Egyptian dissident Saadeddin Ibrahim, who is now in exile abroad, security sources said on Tuesday.

    The sources said the men, accused of belonging to an Islamist group they called Takfir and Higra, were arrested over the past month on suspicion of plotting to blow up the Ibn Khaldoun Centre for Development Studies.

    Judge: No bail for San Jose man charged with aiding terror plot

    SAN JOSE, California: A judge agreed with federal prosecutors Tuesday that a California man with alleged ties to terrorists in the Philippines must remain jailed pending his trial.

    U.S. District Judge Jeremy Fogel ruled that San Jose resident Rahmat Abdhir poses a threat to the community where he has spent 17 years with a wife and four children who are all U.S. citizens because he knowingly sent money and military gear to his brother, a high-ranking member of an al-Qaida off-shoot.
