THE TALIBANIZATION OF EDUCATION IN EGYPT

This article surveys compulsory Arabic language curricula of the Egyptian education system. Extracts are presented and analyzed to show how these lessons are often infused with Islamic religious texts that emphasize Islam as the basis of all societal relations. All students, regardless of religion, are indoctrinated to uphold "obedience to God and His Prophet [Muhammad]."

Lessons promote that leadership positions should be held by "believers" only; that any ruler who "disobeys God and His Prophet" can be himself disobeyed; and that the believers should take a firm position against those who "do not submit to the orders of God and His Prophet." There is little mention of the constitution or laws. The article concludes that this government-endorsed curriculum is breeding intolerance and extremism among the new generations.

ISLAM VERSUS AHL AL KITAB PAST AND PRESENT

Islam means submission to the will of God through unquestioning obedience to His Law in the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Judaism is named after the tribe of Judah and Christianity after Jesus Christ (peace be upon him). Thus even the names of these faiths illustrate their restrictive character. The name of Islam proves its universality. What a contrast to the views expressed during a recently held interfaith conference in Washington D.C. where Dr.Isaac Franck, Executive Vice-President of the Jewish Community Council of Washington said that Judaism considers itself as valid only for Jews and does not attempt to impose its views upon non-Jews. He declared: "The validity of non-Jewish the theological beliefs is not subject to our evaluation or judgment." To me this is conclusive proof that Judaism must be false because an omnipotent God would never restrict His truth to a single people. Truth by its very nature must be universal!

قرار تشكيل اللجنة

أصدر مجلس الشعب بجلسته المعقودة يوم الاثنين من شوال 1392 الموافق من نوفمبر 1972 قرار بناء على طلب السيد رئيس الجمهورية بتشكيل لجنة خاصة باستظهار الحقائق. حول الأحداث الطائفية التي وقعت أخيرا في مركز الخانكة وإعداد تقرير للمجلس عن حقيقة ما حدث . وقد شكلت هذه اللجنة برياسة الدكتور جمال العطيفي وكيل المجلس وعضوية السادة أعضاء المجلس محمد فؤاد أبو هميلة وألبرت برسوم سلامة وكمال الشاذلى والدكتور رشدى سعيد وعبد المنصف حسن زين والمهندس محب إستينو.
