Letter to his Excellency António Guterres Secretary-General of the United Nations

Your Excellency

I am sure your Excellency are aware of the negotiation taking place between Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt about the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam GERD which has taken 10 years so far with out any progress towards agreeing the principles of operating the dam and the filling of each stage. The Egyptian government has Shawn a great deal of patience and tolerance to the evasive and manipulative attitude of the Ethiopian delegate but this has to come to an end.

Ethiopia so far has not given any regard to the old international treaties or care about the livelihood of over 140 millions in Egypt and Sudan. Egypt relay on the Nile as the main source of 90% water supply.

Last summers Ethiopia, unilaterally, proceeded to do the first filling, retaining 4.5 billion cubic meters of water behind the dam.

Ethiopia intends to withhold 13.5 billion cubic meters as from June 2021, which is bound to have deleterious effect specially on Egypt without formally agreeing with either Sudan or Egypt on the principles of filling the lake and operation of GERD.

Ethiopia showing great intransigence and not working with Egypt and Sudan as Partners sharing the same natural resource, paying no attention to the Nile importance in the lives of the Egyptians. For Ethiopia the GERD is only important for development and generation of electricity but for Egypt is a matter of life and death.

The world does not need more instability in an already unstable region, or human flooding of Europe because of mass immigrants from Egypt and Sudan or even worse a regional war over water.

We are writing to your Excellency on behalf of our members, the European Union of Coptic Organisation for Human Rights, the Canadian Coptic Activists Federation, the United Copts of Great Britain, the Dutch Coptic Foundation and The European Union of the Egyptian Communities to use your good offices and power to stop impending starvation of Egypt from their natural resource, the Nile, or even worse a possible serious regional instability or regional war.

Thank you.

Yours sincerely

Mr Medhat Kelada Chairman The European Union of Coptic Organisation for Human Rights.

Dr Hany Shenouda Chairman The Canadian Coptic Activists Federation.

Mr Bahaa Ramzi Chairman Dutch Coptic Foundation.

Mr Esam Ebid Chairman The European Union of the Egyptian Communities.

Dr I H Ibrahim The United Copts of Great Britain & Deputy Chairman The European Union of Coptic Organisation for Human Rights.
