Prominent Egyptian Islamist detained

CAIRO (Reuters) - Egyptian authorities have detained prominent Muslim Brotherhood member Hassan el-Hayawan, the Brotherhood said on Wednesday.

Security forces took Hayawan from his clinic in the Nile Delta province of Sharkia, northeast of Cairo, on Tuesday night, Brotherhood sources told Reuters.

Muslim Brotherhood lawyer Abdel Moneim Abdel Maqsoud told Reuters Hayawan and two other men had appeared before a State Security Court but it was not yet clear if he had been charged.

The two other men were arrested in February along with Hayawan on weapons charges. A state security court acquitted Hayawan in June but he was rearrested on the day of his release and detained until late September.

The two men, neither of them a member of the Brotherhood, were convicted.
