A PROTEST AGAINST THE BARBARIC ATTACK BY EGYPT’S SECURITY FORCES AGAINST THE COPTS

Coptic Solidarity condemns the brutal attack by the Egyptian State Security forces on November 24 against the peaceful Coptic community in the district of Omrania, Guiza Governorate. This unjustified aggression left at least three dead and dozens wounded, including over 20 who were blinded, either partially or totally and 156 are detained ever since by the security forces.  Over 2,000 Central Security officers participated in that brutal and barbaric attack crying the Jihad call “Allhu Akbar” on the peaceful “sitting-in” Copts inside the church. They used tear gas, rubber bullets and live ammunition.

This is a new and most dangerous precedent in which the security forces carried out the attack while in the past it condoned or encouraged such attacks when carried out by the mob that enjoyed total impunity.  Thus, it is the first time that the Coptic clergy, in response to Bishop Anba David’s call, is participating in our peaceful demonstrations to protest the barbaric attacks and oppressions, which are on a rapid increase both in frequency and in severity.

Please refer to the International Religious Freedom Report 2010, issued on Nov. 17 by the US Department of State for more information on the subject:
