Someone threw a Molotov cocktail through the window of a newly-opened church in the city's north end early this morning, Peel Regional Police report.

The smoke set off a fire alarm at 4 a.m. and brought Brampton firefighters to the Coptic Orthodox Church of Archangel Michael & St. Tekla on Hurontario Street. When firefighters arrived, there was smoke, but no flames, it was smothered quickly and police were called. The damage is minor, according to police. Fire officials say it appears the damage is limited to smoke and water.
No one was reported injured.

The church held its official opening just two weeks ago, on Oct. 13. It is located on Hurontario north of Mayfield Road.
Police have no suspects or motive in the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call 22 Division detectives at 905-453-2121, ext. 2233, or Peel Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
