WASHINGTON – The 20-year-old arrested as a suspect in the Washington state mall shooting is a native of Adana, Turkey, and a 2015 graduate of Oak Harbor High School in the Washington state community of Oak Harbor, Washington, where he was known as “The Turk.”

Arcan Cetin is a legal permanent resident of the United States, authorities said.

He was identified by surveillance video images in the store. He was arrested Saturday night following the Friday-night attack in which five people were killed by an assailant bearing a Ruger hunting rifle who strolled into the makeup department of a Macy’s store in the Cascade Mall – a gun-free zone. Four of the victims were women ranging in age from teens to seniors.

Cetin posted on his Tumblr page encouragement to chant “SubhanAllah,” which means “glory to Allah.”

There are reports the assailant may have known two of the women – possibly an ex-girlfriend and her grandmother. The shooter first walked into the mall unarmed and returned 10 minutes later armed.

Washington State Patrol Sgt. Mark Francis told the media that he couldn’t comment on reports that the gunman had called out a woman’s name before opening fire, according to Q13 Fox.

Police say it’s too early to rule out terrorism as a motive for the shooting.

Cetin was recognized from the mall video while walking down a street in Oak Harbor after a massive manhunt in Burlington, 65 miles north of Seattle.

Cetin, who was not armed at the time of his arrest, complied with officers and did not try to run when they confronted him, reported CNN.

Cetin tweeted after participating in a paintball contest.

“He said nothing,” said Lt. Mike Hawley of the Island County Sheriff’s Office. “Just kind of zombie-like.”

The identity of the youngest victim, Sarai Lara, 16 — a cancer survivor and high school sophomore — was confirmed by her mother.

The other victims were Belinda Galde, 64, and her mother, 95-year-old Beatrice Dotson, and Shyla Martin, a 52-year-old Macy’s makeup counter employee.

Chuck Eagan, a Boeing maintenance worker, was also shot while helping his wife flee the store. He was airlifted from the scene and died later at a hospital.

In January 2015, Cetin Tweeted this message: “We win I vote for Hillary.”

Cetin’s Twitter feed also shows him musing over Miley Cyrus, Turkish food, and the computer game Halo.

Cetin’s criminal past included an arrest for drunk driving and three domestic-violence assault charges, with the victim in the assault cases identified as his stepfather, according to Skagit County court records.

In 2015, Cetin was involved in a 4th degree assault in Oak Harbor. As a result, the court ordered him to go under a mental-health evaluation, which was completed in March 2016, according to KIRO 7. He was ordered not to use drugs or alcohol during this time. On Aug. 25, 2016, he was found in compliance with all court orders, including weekly mental-health counseling.

Cetin is scheduled to make a court appearance Monday.
