An appeals judge on Sunday (Dec. 28) found Bishoy Armia Boulous, 31, previously known as Mohammed Hegazy, not guilty on a charge of spreading information meant to “cause harm or damage to the public interest” and not guilty on the closely related charge of spreading false news “bound to weaken” Egypt’s “prestige” or harm the “country’s national interests.”

The appeals judge did not identify the specific article of Egypt’s Criminal Code that Boulous was found guilty of violating, but according to the law he will do so in the official sentencing documents set to be issued in two weeks.

Lawyer of catechumen Bishoy or Mohammed Hegazy, reported the general attorney that Bishoy has been tortured, beaten and receiving ill-treatment while in detention pending multiple accusations of contempt of Islam and spreading false information.

Bishoy was detained in the execution room in violation of the law and was treated so badly in jail.

It’s worth mentioning that he was detained despite the lack of evidence, but he filed the first lawsuit in Egypt to convert from Islam to Christianity, which was more than enough to send him to jail.

mariam samir

The world reacted in horror and revulsion at the kidnapping of 276 Nigerian schoolgirls in April. But twice as many Coptic Christian schoolgirls in Egypt have vanished slowly, one-by-one, in kidnappings that remain unsolved.

Since January, 2011 through March, 2014, over 550 Christian girls were kidnapped by Muslim men and forced to convert and marry their abductors, often after suffering violence at the hands of their kidnappers, according to the Association of Victims of Abduction and Forced Disappearance (AVAFD)

ISTANBUL, Turkey (Morning Star News) – A Coptic woman has lost her appeal of what human rights activists call a false conviction for blaspheming Islam and has been sentenced to six months in an Egytian prison.

The appellate court ruling, handed down on Sunday (June 15), shocked the Christian woman, 25-year-old Demyana Abd al-Nour, her family and human rights advocates. As Al-Nour fled the country last year, the ruling practically guarantees that she will spend the rest of her life in exile from Egypt.

Gunmen kill 3 people outside Cairo church

By Jay Deshmukh (AFP) –

Cairo — Gunmen on a motorbike shot dead three people late Sunday, including an eight-year-old girl, as they fired on a group outside a Coptic Christian church in Cairo, Egypt's interior ministry said.

The attack was the first such assault targeting Christians in the Egyptian capital since the military coup that ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi on July 3.

It targeted a group of people who had emerged from the church in north Cairo's Al-Warak neighbourhood after attending a wedding, the ministry said.

It said an eight-year-old girl, a woman and a man were killed and nine others were wounded in the attack.

Persecuted and forgotten: Egypt's Christians

Anti-Christian violence is on the rise in Egypt. Just a month ago, 45 churches and buildings were burned to the ground. But will Egyptian security forces do anything to stop it?
