Syria has banned the face-covering Islamic veil from the country's universities to prevent what it sees as a threat to its secular identity, as similar moves in Europe spark cries of discrimination against Muslims.

Uncovering the truth is always a convoluted affair when it comes to the Middle East. Consider the case of the Egyptian Nagla Imam. The story begins last June 24, when I was a guest on I Was a Prisoner, which airs weekly on the Arabic satellite station Tarek TV ("Way TV"). Named after its host, Nabil Bissada, who was imprisoned and tortured in Egypt for facilitating the way for Muslims to convert to Christianity, I Was a Prisoner explores the lack of human rights in Muslim countries.

The high profile criminal trial of Christian Copt  poultry vendor Girgis Baroumi, accused of allegedly having sexually assaulted a Muslim minor, has reconvened on July 12, 2010,  under a new judicial body and another district criminal court in Qena.   The defendant's legal team had applied in April 2010, to change the previous court  due to being prevented from meeting  with their client, attending closed sessions or cross-examining witnesses.

أعلن أشرف إدوارد، محامي المتنصر محمد حجازي، اليوم السبت، أنه بصدد اتخاذ عدد من الإجراءات القانونية للمطالبة بالمساواة بين كل من المتنصرين والمتحولين إلى الإسلام، في الدعاوى القضائية التي يقيمونها للمطالبة بإثبات ديانتهم الجديدة في الأوراق الرسمية.

وقال إدوارد إنه سوف يتقدم بطعن أمام دائرة توحيد المبادئ بمحكمة القضاء الإداري للمطالبة بتطبيق المعايير نفسها والمواد القانونية التي استندت إليها المحكمة في حكم أصدرته قبل أيام بإلزام وزارة الداخلية باستخراج بطاقة رقم قومي لسيدة مسيحية اعتنقت الإسلام مدون فيها ديانتها الجديدة "الإسلام".
